ITANAGAR, Dec 26: At least four government bachelor barracks of PWD were gutted down on Christmas occasion at Poma PWD Camp under Sangdupota circle of Papum Pare on Dec 25. Students demand early solution to Chakma refugee problem
ITANAGAR, Dec 26: All Tai Khampti Singpho Students Union (ATKSSU), All Changlang District Students Union and Tirap, Changlang, Longding and Lohit Students Union (TCLSU), in a joint press release demanded the State Govt. to find an early solution to Chakma refugee issue.
Condemning the recantation of Chakma people upon the indigenous Singpho people of Arunachal Pradesh, the TCLSU questioned as to why the state govt. did not deploy additional forces in M’pen, Miao of Changlang district.
Alleging complete failure on the administration in evacuating the conflicted land, the union also alleged carelessness attitude by the state govt. towards people of Lohit, Tirap, Changlang and Longding.
The ATKSSU and All Changlang District Students Union strongly condemned the administration for failing to give “rightful Rights” to the indigenous tribe of Arunachal Pradesh.

Christmas celebrated with great fervor
ITANAGAR, Dec 26: Along with rest of the world, Christmas was celebrated with great fervor and gaiety in Arunachal Pradesh. Chief Minister Nabam Tuki participated in the celebration by attending the mass prayer at Christian Revival Church at ESS Sector here and later attended the ceremony at Naharlagun Catholic Church, Pappu Nalah with Bishop and other dignitaries yesterday.
In his festival message to the gathering, the chief minister greeted all Merry Christmas and asked them to spread the message of world peace, harmony and love preached by the great Lord. He also advocated for fostering the feeling of brotherhood among all communities irrespective of colour, creed, language and religion.
“All are one and are sons and daughters of the God,” he emphatically said while appealing the people to be as one family for the betterment of the society, country and the world.
The programme was also attended by Arunachal Christian Forum General Secretary Toko Teki and Rev. Dr. Takkeng Taggu.
The Chief Minister later inspected the under construction building of the 500 bedded state hospital at Naharlagun. He was accompanied by the Health & Family Welfare Director K Nishing who explained the chief minister about the dream project which is gradually realized.
The CM asked the concern agency to complete the project well in time by maintaining utmost quality. He directed the health and Family welfare department to constantly monitor the work so as to ensure its expeditious implementation.

Miao situation remains tense but under control

ITANAGAR, Dec 26: The situation in violent hit Miao area remains tense though under control. On 23rd of this month, Chakma refugees burnt down the houses of indigenous Singpho residents after clash broke out over piece of land at M’Pen village located nearby Miao town. The Chakma hooligans also ransacked Miao town following day.
Yesterday morning Chitra Nallah field belonging to Singpho citizens was also allegedly burnt down by rampaging Chakma group. The uneasy calm which Miao town is witnessing because of peace meeting held yesterday at office of ADC, Miao. The meeting was attended among others by Deputy Commissioner Changlang, Superintendent of Police Changlang, senior leaders of Singpho and Chakma refugees. After prolonged discussion a peace committee was formed and it was decided that both Singpho and Chakma will reconstruct the house which was burnt down during clash. As part of that initiative today house of one Singpho was rebuilt at Khagam village jointly by Singpho and Chakma under supervision of district administration. When contacted Superintendent of Police Changlang, BK Singh informed that situation is normal and there is no report of any fresh violence. “The patrolling has been intensified and peace committee formed so that any misunderstanding can be solved amicably. Lot of rumour and false report is being spread. The fact is that no any fresh violence took place after 24th December,” said SP.

ITANAGAR, Dec 26: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has expressed shock over the tragic vehicle accident at Mengio on December 24 at around 1400 hrs which reportedly claimed two lives and left scores injured. Those critically injured have been evacuated to Naharlagun General Hospital and Rama Krishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar, while one who has sustained grievous injury and the condition stated critical has been airlifted to Guwahati.

over the premature demise of two people who were identified as Nabam Nikam, age 45

Press fraternity condemns attack on mediapersons at Miao
ITANAGAR, Dec 26: The Arunachal Press Club and Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist strongly condemned the attack on media team by CRPF jawans at Upper Bazaar Miao, Changlang.
“What can we expect from others when people who are supposed to protect us starts attacking”, the organization duo lamented while pledging to take the issue at the highest forum.
The media team – Pranjal Bhuyan (DY365), Tom Simai (Independent Review & Terik Weekly), Pisi Zuing (The Miao Times) and Nong Yongkuk (Protidin & Jhonobhumi) were reportedly attacked by the jawans led by its Major LC Sharma and Captain Hoshiyar Singh when they were covering Chakma issue.
While reporting the scuffle between the CRPF jawans and the local youths, the CRPF jawans attacked the media team at Upper Bazaar Miao. “The jawans manhandled Simai and broke his mobile phone, tried to snatch the camera of DY 365 besides hurling all sort of abuses, ” complained one of the journalists.
“A group of angry youth complained to CRPF for their dereliction of duty and inability to prevent burning of houses. Outnumbered and humiliated, the CRPF jawans left the scene and came back with 50 of their colleague armed with sophisticated weapons, lathis and took out their frustration on us,” Simai informed.
ATDSU condemns lathi charge on monks, demands solution to burning issues
ITANAGAR, Dec 26: The All Tawang District Students' Union (ATDSU) has vehemently condemned the barbaric act of lathi charge on protesting monks in Tawang.
ATDSU, in a an emergency meeting attended by senior AAPSU leaders of Tawang, Mon Students' Union of Rajiv Gandhi University, Mon Students Association, Guwahati, Mon Students' Association of Shillong discussed various burning issues of Tawang and pending cases like Kangteng murder case and minor girl rape case etc.
The meeting after a threadbare discussion unanimously resolved to demand the District Administration to solve the rape and murder cases by January 2013.
The meeting further resolved to demand the District Administration/authority concerned to seek explanation regarding the pending cases and the brutal act within two weeks failing which the union threatened to launch democratic movement. Meanwhile, the meeting demanded the District Administration, Ministers, MLAs and authority concerned to conduct a mass meeting at Tawang on the burning issues issue and hydro power project within January, 2013.

Normalcy returns at Tawang

M’Pen/MIAO, Dec 26: On the Christmas Eve when the children across the globe was waiting for Santa Claus, the children of Singpho community were witnessing the burning of their houses by the Chakma Refugees at M’Pen, Lewang, Khagan Singpho, Phup and Pisi villages. They also witnessed the brutal assault on their parents by the Chakma mobs that were armed to teeth with sophisticated weapons. Chakma mobs stole all the livestock’s, along with all the valuable ornaments and money before turning the Singpho house’s into ashes. If it was not enough, the Chakma mobs also shredded the only sustenance source that connects these sensitive villages with Miao town by taking away all the boats that were used to ferry the commuters and vehicles.
Despite the sensitivity of the situation that surfaced due to the temerity of Chakma Hajong refugees, the high profile team consisting of Parliamentary Secretary Home Gadam Ete, Inspector General of Police, Coal and Mining Minister Kamlung Mossang, DC Chanchal Yadav, SP BK Singh and hordes of other official that crossed the river upon a truck returned without touring the entire affected area on Dec 25.
The high profile team only visited the nearest village – Lewang, while they skipped
the other affected villages – Khagam Singpho where the victims were waiting to interact
with them at the Buddha Vihara. The team also didn’t interact with the victims that
were taking refuge at Phup Middle School. When the media team arrived at Khagam Singpho
that borders with Chakma village – Moitri -
Meanwhile, reflecting the laxity of the security personnel deployed to protect the village, Walula Singpho whose shop and house were burned said that despite her repeated call to the security personnel who were at the village didn’t stop the Chakma mobs from burning the house stating that they are yet to receive any instruction from local administration.
DC Chanchal Yadav ordered a unit of CRPF to be deployed at Lewang ME School where the villager has taken refuge. She also ordered to start a kitchen for the victims.
Yadav also asked the Lewang GB not to pursue any revenge attempt but to solve the situation amicably and assured them to take action against the culprits.

Reportedly, the Chakma refugees that attacked these villages including M’pen has been reported of carrying sophisticated weapons like AK 47, pistols along with country made pistols, machetes etc. They are believed to be the member of United People Democratic Front. Inclusively, eyewitnesses has divulged that Chakma’s employed with various armed forces were also involved in the brutal attack that has rendered hundreds homeless.

Awareness campaign on workers’ welfare schemes

ITANAGAR, Dec 26: Continuing its efforts to make people aware of the benefits being delivered by it, the Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board has conducted awareness campaign at Nacho under the Upper Subansiri district recently.
Tage Tupe, Registering Officer APB & OCWWB Upper Subansiri Distt, informed about various welfare schemes being implemented under APBOCWWB like medical benefit, old age pension, education benefit, housing loan, maternity benefit, death benefit, disability pension, tools and advance marriage assistance to two children of registered workers and encouraged workers to register under APB&OCWWB to avail the benefits.
More than 700 workers from various departments, including Border Road Organization of Nacho and Lemiking circle attended the programme.
Tabi Marde, President and Taje Digbak, General Secretary of All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union Upper Subansiri unit also attended and spoke on the occasion.
Jumni Ligu, District Labour Officer of Upper Subansiri attended campaign as resource person.

AAPSU need to mend ways
Dear Editor,
This column is regarding ongoing activities for AAPSU election 2012. There are reports of gun firing and violent incident at DN College over AAPSU election. I wonder why they (AAPSU candidates) still want to be student leader when they have so much of money, man power, arms and ammunition with them? If they are already well established, why don't they start their own business??Why bother student union??
AAPSU is supposed to be for students but not for EX-
We don't see such violent incidents even in general elections, but here we are experiencing terror on student body election. Their (candidates) actions does not signify of a bright student leader, rather it’s like a politician from "BIHAR"'.
Can't you sense how citizens are affected from it? Can’t you see what the future generation students perceive from such incidents? And I really can’t sense any social objective behind such violent act. Now, what done is done but there is still time to overcome it. Apex body like AAPSU are our (students) source of inspiration as during difficulties they are the only one to be rely upon. But creating such circumstances fades the faith and trust.
So, it’s a sincere request to perceive my objective in positive manner. "EVERY CLOUD HAS A SILVER LINING"

It will be not wrong to describe Arunachal Pradesh as "Industry of Unions & Associations". Here and there emerges a new associations and unions with multiple banners. Steeply entering into the point, I would like to point towards our Apex student body AAPSU and its 24th conference cum general election. Really we are fortunate/unfortunate enough to witness a general election of student union which took a month to conclude. Apart from students every section of society has faced hardship in the meantime process. Really it was annoying to witness 'money game' in student politics. Even nomination fee for president and General Secretary post is Rs.1 lakh and 50 thousand respectively beside minimum for assistant secretary post was Rs.20 thousand as per report published in newspaper. Everywhere right from highest post of president to lowest post of assistant was marked with huge money involvement.
I find in every social network sites, papers and day to day conversation that students are blamed of taking money for their votes. Pity for the poor students who are lobbied and compelled to take in order to sustain for little pocket expenses, to purchase books and material and other day to day needs. Generally most of the students studying within state are from poor background, parents are hardly able to afford even for admission fees. It would have been little better if instead of direct involvement of money good numbers of subject related books of reputed author and publication was distributed, though its bit difficult but not impossible if they leaders really meant for students. Thus, Student leaders are to be blamed for misguiding those poor students. Also state Govt. is to be blamed for untimely disbursement and non release of stipends and despite announcement of increase in stipend rate it is yet to be received by students.

As AAPSU is busy in long election process, state had faced several hardship and problems like rape, murder and physical assault of student community, the long pending Chakma refugee issue has arose again in Singpho areas and beside several other problems. Further our state has been running under Rs. 200 crore deficits according to last budget. So, its earnest request to AAPSU team please doesn’t add more problems. We know your lots of money have been wasted. But fault was yours as you only involved student politics with money.

down on 17th December after the ultimatum dated expired on 15th December. The ultimatum

It is worth mentioning here that many times we been given assurances by many politicians in the past on the account of their picnic visit or campaigning agenda but never stick to their commitment. Recently a formal interaction took place at the Deputy Commissioner’s chamber which was attended by our local Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Rajesh Tacho who is also holding the post of cabinet minister of urban development (UD) and Fisheries. He was clarifying to the house on the issue by saying ‘ many times I put this problem before my colleague education minister but he hardly respond me by saying ‘ Mere Pass Koi Jaddu ka Chhari Nahi Hai ‘. Hopefully the minister might not have magic stick to curtail down the ongoing crisis but can maintain the equality to his fellow brothers and sisters of the state. The need of hours is to uphold our poor younger generation who is the future of tomorrow but not blaming each other within their colleagues to smash the real issue. And if this tussle continues in near future then their capabilities must be questioned or should step down from respective portfolios.
Again, the system of transfer and posting itself is a big mess in every Gov’t department

Time to take some action
Dear Editor,
Being a victim Singpho citizen, the decision taken by Chanchal Yadav the Deputy Commissioner of Changlang district to rebuild only one home of Singphos being burnt down by Chakma refugees is somewhat a partiality decision shown against the Singphos by government of Arunachal Pradesh. Lots of motorbikes, houses and car along with the household belonging have been burnt down by the Chakmas and who is going to compensate them.
Also the blackmailing type of decision to arrest the leaders of both the groups (ie Chakma and Singphos) if someone among both the warring groups does some wrong action is just like mother scolding her children as she cannot guarantee who is going to attack first because this is not a joke.
M’pen the name itself says it is a Singpho village because M’pen family still is living then how come the Chakma refugee claims the M’pen village as theirs when historically the area belongs to Singphos.
The Chakmas who have fled from Bangladesh during 1970’s due to building of Kaptai dam and other problem can how claim that M’pen belongs to them. And why the government of Arunachal Pradesh is giving protection to refugees instead of their own indigenous people. We have lost our faith in government. It is a high time Singphos should know to what to do to protect their own territory as our forefathers have done so.
